Student Support Services of the Institute can provide the students with help in finding accommodation and understanding lease and tenancy conditions. Temporary accommodation can be arranged before students leave home allowing their time on arrival to consider where and how they would like to be accommodated in the longer term. Student notice boards and newspapers often advertise rooms, apartments and houses for rent. Kingston Institute Australia, however, is not responsible about any accommodation services or costs.

Living with an Australian family is called Homestay. Homestay is an excellent introduction to the Australian way of life and provides a great opportunity to practice speaking English. Students will be treated as part of the family by their hosts. The fee for homestay covers: 7 breakfasts, 7 dinners and 2 lunches on the weekend

Single rate: student’s own room, with bed, desk for study and wardrobe
Shared rate: 2 students sharing one room with bed, desk and wardrobe

The minimum length of stay in a home is 4 weeks. If students wish to leave their homestay they must inform their host 2 weeks before they leave. This is called 2 weeks’ notice. For information about homestay and shared accommodation please talk to Student Services.

Homestay is a wonderful way to share a unique cultural experience. AHN Homestay hosts will help students with life in Australia, and advise them of general safety, accommodation and welfare information.

Sydney and Melbourne have a large number of backpacker accommodations of good quality with low price. Before students stay at backpacker accommodation, they should ask to see the facilities and the bedrooms. Prices for backpackers vary greatly and depend on how many people they are prepared to share a room with. Staying in backpacker accommodation is a good way to meet other travelers and make new friends.

Share accommodation

Shared accommodation is where students live with other people in a house or apartment. Students may share a bedroom or have a bedroom to themselves and the cost of utilities like electricity and gas are shared between the people in the household. A notice board is available at the campus for people to put up notices for room available.

Where to look for accommodation?

The following is a list of places where you can go to find advertisements for accommodation:

  • Student noticeboards around College
  • Newspaper classifieds (MX, , Daily Telegraph)
  • Real Estate Agent windows & websites
  • Local shopping centre noticeboards (Westfield, Woolworth)
